I mean… “BCBS” which is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas. (In case you don’t know, they are THE largest health insurance provider in Kansas… cool!)
I’m in Topeka, Kansas finishing up a three day job with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas. Lucky me: they wanted a funny motivational speaker with experience in the insurance industry and I got the call.
We All Crave the Same Thing
It was a good reminder to me that insurance folks need the same thing as the rest of us: we need help making sense of what we already know because the world is overwhelming. My experience is that, even in intense business industries like health insurance, folks are craving new info as much as they are craving a way to feel better about the world around us, and a way to feel significant in a complex work environment. Plus, they need a laugh.
I tend to work a lot as a speaker for insurance of all types, and I love that my clients talk to each other. (When I work for one group, it usually ends up leading to other groups in that industry — which is very flattering.) When prepping for my keynote I work hard to customize the program and make it industry specific. But more and more I’m realizing that we all crave knowing that we matter for our organization, whether we’re talking about the insurance industry, health care, or for profit corporate America.
I was lucky: this is a really great group of hard-working health insurance folks who have done well and really deserve a laugh… they deserve a funny health insurance speaker. I was impressed with the whole organization, from the the All Employees Meeting Team, to the good folks in the audience, to CEO/President Mike Mattox. Thanks guys… it was a blast.
