MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER Popular with Leadership for Different Reasons than the Employees
FUNNY MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER Clients v. Audience
Hey everyone! Blogging from Texas, here. Walking around a small city called Johnson City, Texas, where I’m working tomorrow for a group of educators. Shout-out to all the educators, administrators and teachers out there—we love you!
It recently occurred to me that I often am hired for one reason by the leadership, but am appreciated by the audiences for a completely separate reason. I don’t know why it took me so long to process this idea, but it’s true. I serve two different sets of clients at each job—the meeting planners and event organizers and company big-wigs, who often do the hands-on hiring. Plus the audience members themselves—the worker bees, those who are down in the trenches, getting stuff done, doing the real work of the organization.
The company meeting planners and organizers love me because I teach emotional and social support in ways that builds the organization writ large. When social and emotional support is practiced in all levels of the organization, from CEOs and managers to entry-level employees and support staff, the results are amazing. All the typical business measurable metrics are improved by a huge dose of emotional and social support (and me!). Retention; recruitment; employee satisfaction; productivity; sales; you name it, these measures of business success all can be improved by the practice of emotional and social support in the workplace.
And this is important also for educators and health care workers. They have some of the highest stress levels of any jobs out there, especially with the ramping up of the Covid delta variant recently, and trying to get schools back in session, etc etc. Giving those front facing workers some of the magic elixir which I call social and emotional support reaps huge benefits, both in terms of the business overall positivity level, but to the individual workers themselves.
And that brings me to my second point. My audiences like me and the message I deliver to them because it’s good for them as individuals, as humans. Forget the big company or hospital or office. When social and emotional support are employed, it just makes our measurable level of happiness and satisfaction go up, up, up. And that’s good for everybody!
Which leads me to another point I want to make. Often the more cynical amongst us (and you know who you are) say, yada yada, motivational speaker, who cares? I know what they’re up to. My bosses are just trying to manipulate me into working harder for the man (or the woman) so they can get what they want out of it. Take your motivational clap-trap and stuff it ….
Well, listen harder my cynical friends. This stuff is not just about bringing success to your company or hospital or insurance office. It’s about bringing peace, love and joy to YOU! Ok, maybe not peace, love and joy, but definitely happiness and satisfaction and, yeah, some peace of mind, some definite feel-good-vibes. And who doesn’t need some feel-good-vibes in this crazy world of ours? So don’t turn your back on this message. Listen, embrace it, and use it to improve your relationships at home, with your spouse, with your kids, with your neighbors and friends. I’m here to tell you, it’s mostly about YOU and how thoughtful, intentional emotional and social support can bring YOU a happier and more positive life.
So bring me in to talk to your people about this important concept. You won’t be sorry. Your company won’t be sorry. Most of all, your people will love you for it.
