After my job speaking in Missouri somebody in my audience approached me and told me a really funny practical joke. (He too believes in the power of Humor in the Workplace.)

He had somebody call his Manager and tell him that he (the boss) had been arrested for hitting one of their customers. And that the customer was hurt really bad (broken eye socket). They were instructed to call a lawyer.

The manager did what he was told…. and freaked out in the meantime. How could his boss lose it? He HIT somebody? They would be sued and would lose. And was that customer ok? Which customer was it.

Apparently after the joke was revealed the manager wouldn’t talk to his boss for 3 days. Though they laugh about it now. And the lawyer he called still charged them $200.

I’m totally into practical jokes. And I’m all for adding more play at work. But even I think this is a bit over the line.

But again, for them it made sense. They know each other really well and both had a love of practical jokes.

Too far? I think so. But it still made me laugh. And I love that they went to great lengths to play at work. And again, for these two guys, it all made sense…..

What do you think?

Missouri Motivational Humorist Speaker

Gene Anderson – The Master of Magical Fun

I love this magician!magician gene anderson

Gene’s performance, combining jaw-dropping magic and his infectious humor, is the perfect addition to any banquet or meeting. He is the acknowledged master of newspaper magic; you’ll never look at your Sunday edition in the same way again! Gene also features such unlikely objects as ropes, eggs and even a sink stopper; this joyous funster is no boring, “Is that a coin behind your ear?” magician! His show involves delightful audience participation pieces, but he’s always careful to provide the laughs with absolutely no embarrassment to his helpers!

Yup…. Karyn Buxman!

Karyn Buxman is a nurse, a motivational speaker, and a health care provider. Based in Missouri, she is also the big cheese behind HumoRx. She is an author (And has a chapter in my book, Humor Me: America’s funniest humorists on the power of laughter). And she is a friend.

Karyn is great for any audience…. she is genuinely funny. But specializes in health care groups.

She is a firm believer — as am I — that groups, perhaps especially healthcare groups are better off if they can use humor, laughter, and smiles to help deal with the stresses of their job. And that when you feel like crying, the best way to deal with it might be to laugh. (AND to cry.)

She’s awesome. Thank Karyn. Nice work.

Check out my work as a health care speaker.

Who is Art?

Comedy as Art

Greg Risberg has a great gag he milks for maximum comic effect: he happens to look exactly like the guy in that famous picture that Chicago Institute of Art, American Gothic. (You know… the guy with the pitch fork.)

Based in Illinois, Greg is a humorist and motivational / inspirational speaker. He is also laugh out loud funny.

But best of all, Greg has a great heart. He has an excellent story about how he used the our book (Greg is a co-author of my first book, Humor Me: America’s funniest humorists on the power of laughter) to build a house. (Find the story at our book site blog.)

I’vedone my best to learn from him. Inspired by Greg, I’ve followed his lead. Five different times I’ve sold Humor Me and donated 100% of the profits to Katrina victims.

The result three fold:

1. I sold way more books than I would have had I not donated the money to charity. People were glad to get involved.
2. It was fun and funny.
3. Everybody FELT great. I felt great. My meeting planner felt great. And the audience felt great.

All this from Greg… one of the funniest inspirational humorists around.

Thanks Greg!

Lance Burton is an excellent magician, and is one of my favorite Las Vegas entertainers .

His act rocks. What I think I love most is the fact that he is the modern answer for old time magicians. He works in a tux. He does tricks which have been around hundreds of years. And is is graceful, polite with his audience, and totally clean.

Besides… a couple of his magic tricks fool the heck out of me.

Next time you’re in Las Vegas, check him out.

David Glickman is one of my favorite corporate comedians and funny motivational speakers. Not only is he funny, not only is he clean, not only is he smart about his use of humor and comedy, But he is a really good guy.

Based in Florida, David is the author of a fabulous book about adding humor to your professional presentations, Punchline your Bottomline.

He covers over a hundred tips and techniques and specific suggestioins about how everybody from corporate executives to corporate trainers can get a few more laughs in their presentations.

I use a bunch of his suggestions every single program. You can learn from from him too: Check out a sample chapter from his humor techniques book.

Corporate Comedian Speaker in Florida

I was working in Las Vegas and was reminded of one of my favorite comic magicians, Mac King. Mac rocks! Funny, clean, and totally origiinal.

And he has an awesome job: a daytime show in Las Vegas. Wow.

Besides, he’s a really nice guy.

Check out this post on eBay. Funny!

Summary

You are bidding on a mistake. We all make mistakes. We date the wrong people for too long. We chew gum with our mouths open. We say inappropriate things in front of grandma. And we buy leather pants. I can explain these pants and why they are in my possession. I bought them many, many years ago under the spell of a woman whom I believed to have taste. She suggested I try them on. I did. She said they looked good. I wanted to have a relationship of sorts with her. I’m stupid and prone to impulsive decisions. I bought the pants. The relationship, probably for better, never materialized. The girl, whose name I can’t even recall, is a distant memory. I think she was short. Ultimately the pants were placed in the closet where they have remained, unworn, for nearly a decade. I would like to emphasize that: Aside from trying these pants on, they have never, ever been worn. In public or private. I have not worn these leather pants for the following reasons: I am not a member of Queen. I do not like motorcycles. I am not Rod Stewart. I am not French. I do not cruise for transvestites in an expensive sports car. These were not cheap leather pants. They are Donna Karan leather pants. They’re for men. Brave men, I would think. Perhaps tattooed, pierced men. In fact, I’ll go so far as to say you either have to be very tough, very gay, or very famous to wear these pants and get away with it. Again, they’re men’s pants, but they’d probably look great on the right lady. Ladies can get away with leather pants much more often than men can. It’s a sad fact that men who own leather pants will have to come to terms with. They are size 34×34. I am no longer size 34×34, so even were I to suddenly decide I was a famous gay biker I would not be able to wear these pants. These pants are destined for someone else. For reasons unknown – perhaps to keep my options open, in case I wanted to become a pirate – I have shuffled these unworn pants from house to house, closet to closet. Alas, it is now time to part ways so that I may use the extra room for any rhinestone-studded jeans I may purchase in the future. These pants are in excellent condition. They were never taken on pirate expeditions. They weren’t worn onstage. They didn’t straddle a Harley, or a guy named Harley. They just hung there, sad and ignored, for a few presidencies. Someone, somewhere, will look great in these pants. I’m hoping that someone is you, or that you can be suckered into buying them by a girl you’re trying to bed. Please buy these leather pants.
funny pants

No… it can keep it going.

Kathleen Passanisi is a humorous motivational speaker. A very funny woman, with an awesome message. And she is a friend.

One of the many things I love about this New York based speaker is that she is an expert on the physical changes humor can make within our bodies. She was instrumental in the creation of AATH Association of Applied Therapeutic Humor. She is a woman who can walk the walk and talk the talk.

She has a delghtful chapter in my first book, Humor Me: America’s Funniest Humorists on the Power of Laughter. I encourage you to check out her chapter about Humor and Friendship

She is a member of the National Speakers Association, where she has received the Certified Speaking Professional and the CPAE award. (That’s a pretty big deal.)

Keep up the good work, Kathleen.

t can when Mike Rayburn is on stage. Mike Rayburn is an entertainer – meets – musician – meets -motivational – speaker based in Florida.

Mike and I have teamed up with me in two books: Humor Me: America’s funniest humorists on the of laughter, AND Humor Us: Americian’s funniest Humorists on the Power of Laughter.

Really, the most impressive thing to me about Mike is not that his a gifted musician, or that is he is a great corporate entertainer, or that he works clean, or that he is a great comedian. My favorite thing about Mike is that his is a perfectionist. He is totally willing to go the extra mile with everything he does.

He was a total control freak with his chapters in these books; and the books are better because of it. He works hard to control every punchline, every pause, and every nuance of his act. And his programs are better because of it.

Best of all? He is a really good guy. I’m glad we are friends.
