How To Book a Speaker

Day 4 Of Your Requested Course

4 Easy Tips for Choosing the Right Keynote Speaker

If you want your speaker to really connect with your

audience, then you want to make sure your speaker

is referring specifically to your groups needs,

stresses, success and fears.

Not only do tailored programs make your speaker more

relevant. But it makes your speaker more funny.

Big time more funny.

It’s one thing for your speaker to say something like,

“Your stresses can be difficult.” It is a whole other

hear something like, “Your Oversight Form 12-B can

really hurt!”

Your keynote speaker should take the time to know

  group.

I’m most flattered when I work for a national company and

folks in the audience assume that I must be an

employee that they just haven’t met. They assume that I’m

an fellow employee because “there is no way an outsider

could know us so well.”

Customization and Tailoring are not the same thing. What

most meeting planners really want is a

tailored program. Not a customized program. Find a speaker

who you KNOW can deliver a proven program, and have

them work hard to TAILOR that proven program to make

it valuable and relevant to your audience.

Ask any potential motivational speaker what they have

planned to get to know you and your company.

Check referencesto see how successful they have been at presenting a topical, relevant, valuable and on-target program by using a tailored approach.Sounds like a small thing…but trust me… Tailoring is hugely important.

notify me where the material will appear.
If you want to change your email address or unsubscribe,
please don’t email me. Click the link at the very bottom.
Only takes a second or two to leave or to make changes.
Thanks! But before you do, think about this: what if
the next newsletter has the winning lotto numbers, and
every reader wins… but you? Hey, it could happen.
So don’t be too hasty.

PRIVACY and SPAM POLICY:

First of all, I hate Spam…
(unless it’s fried). I never rent, trade or sell my
email list to anyone for any reason whatsoever. Not
even if they give me $1 Million. (If they give
me $3 Million, you might be in trouble, but

seriously, what are the chances?) You’ll never
get an unsolicited email from a stranger

as a result of joining this list. Not that
I’m not pretty strange, but… well… you get the idea.

TYPOS!

Finally, some readers love to find typos, grammar errors and other sundry goofs. I occasionally leave them in just to make those people happy. So if you found some… Yippee! It’s you’re lucky day.

If you’re still reading this far down, you REALLY need to find a hobby. It’s over! All done.

Seriously dude. It’s time to get back to work. Don’t you have some email to return or something?

Ok, now you’re just pushing it. You need some serious help with time management. Move on baby! This thing is over!

Since you’re still here, here’s a bonus YouTube video for you. This thing made me laugh. Hope you enjoy it. It is totally worth 4 minutes of your time. (And apparently you have 4 minutes.) It’s of an opera at a market in Europe. It’ll make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3sLHPjkpNE

You must be craving more. Why are you here? I bet you have something that you SHOULD be doing but don’t want to. Clean your desk. Get coffee. Call your mom.

There has to be a better way to procrastinate than this!

Since you’re here …might as well check out my blog. (Hey! If you can’t fight it, embrace it!)

most meeting planners really want is a

tailored program. Not a customized program. Find a speaker

who you KNOW can deliver a proven program, and have

them work hard to TAILOR that proven program to make

it valuable and relevant to your audience.

Ask any potential speaker what they have

planned to get to know you and your company.

Check references

to see how successful they have been at presenting a

topical, relevant, valuable and on-target program by

using a tailored approach.

Sounds like a small thing…but trust me… Tailoring

is hugely important.

How To Book a Motivational Speaker

Day 3 Of Your Requested Course

Get the Most “Bang for your Buck.”

1. Make sure your keynote speaker knows what you expect.

Speakers can do what they think is a great job

– but if they are delivering what they thought you

wanted… and not what you actually wanted –

nobody wins. Never be shy about laying out very specific

objectives for your speaker. Let them know how you

will quantify a successful event.

2. Make sure the room is set up right. If you are

hiring a pro keynote speaker who can deliver every time — and

you should — the only variable left is how well the

audience can see and hear the speaker. Setting the

distance between the audience and your keynote speaker,

arranging for a proper platform, professional sound,

and adequate lighting might not sound that important,

but it can (and has!) made the difference between a

standing ovation and total flop.

But making sure this stuff is correct is easy and

very cheap. (Usually free.)

Learn how Brad does

it here.

Brad’s A.V. Requirements.

3. Get your keynote speaker up to speed on your group.

Most speakers will drop in important references

to your groups goals, challenges, and history.

But they can only do that if you help them to

understand. Find out what your motivational speaker needs

to succeed to learn about you and then… do it.

For a sample of how Brad learns about your group,

see his pre-program questionnaire.

Brad’s Speaker Questionnaire

4. Put the right speaker in the right time slot.

Work with you speaker to make sure he can deliver

the type of program your time slot requires.

If your people are tired, have been drinking, have

sat through three days of meetings, etc, and then

you ask your speaker to teach 15 steps to

Success… your audience won’t make it pass the

second step. It’s equally goofy to put Sparky

the Magic Clown in front of a team of Health Care

execs at 9 am. Ask tons of questions, and get

your speaker into the right place at the right time.

5. Make sure your speaker receives a good introduction.

Introductions are crucial! Bad introductions poorly

delivered will sabotage your speaker more than you

might guess. Ask your introducer to read your

speaker’s carefully designed introduction… ask them

NOT to interject stuff like, “Hey, I didn’t write this!”

And introducers who interrupt these introductions which

have been crafted over years though trial and error

with what they think is “improvements” or “jokes”

are not helping you and your speaker succeed. Just

the opposite.

Brad’s intro? Glad you asked! Brad’s Keynote Intro

the next newsletter has the winning lotto numbers, and
every reader wins… but you? Hey, it could happen.
So don’t be too hasty.

PRIVACY and SPAM POLICY:

First of all, I hate Spam…
(unless it’s fried). I never rent, trade or sell my
email list to anyone for any reason whatsoever. Not
even if they give me $1 Million. (If they give

How To Book a Motivational Speaker

Day 2 Of Your Requested Course

3 MORE Tips Choosing the Right Motivational Speaker

1. Consider the audio visual component of booking your

speaker. Your speaker should have a clear understanding

of what types of equipment he or she will need.

Ask potential motivational speakers

for it! Look for extravagant or wildly expensive

requests. (It may be well worth it, but it makes sense

to know what you’re getting yourself into.) It is

totally worth the investment of top quality AV equipment

to assure the success of your speaker investment. But at the same time, Brad has spoken from the back of a farm truck. Everything is possible…just know what you’re getting into.

2. Understand that your speaker will be traveling. This

fact will add some expense to your bottom line. Work with

your speaker to understand what the extra fees for travel

will be and how they will work. Find out what is and

is not included.

Details about how Brad handles travel::

http://www.bradmontgomery.com/motivational-speakers-faq/#m

3. Don’t book a prima donna. We are often surprised how

often we hear stories about speakers who demand unnecessary

“extras” for no reason. Ask your potential speaker about whether

they will fly first class, hire limos, or charge up unreasonable

road and travel expenses.

And check with their past references to find out what that speaker

is like at the event site. Are they edgy and difficult?

Are they demanding and unreasonable? Do they have “requirements”

that will just add to your head-ache factor? (For example

we heard of one speaker who demanded a fruit tray and a

specific brand of mineral water in a private

‘green room’ even though the event was informal and in

smaller town that made this particular requirement a pain.

There are plenty of professional speakers who would love to

work with you; find one that you’ll enjoy working with.

You want a speaker who is as committed to a successful

(and easy to produce) event as you are. Work hard to

find a speaker who has tons of experience without the ego

that often accompanies it.

4. Consider booking a motivational keynote speaker who can offer books, audio

products and other supporting materials. Many times your

audience will want to purchase your speakers’ books and

resources in order to follow up on the message. Make

sure your speaker can deliver.

Some clients love to pre-purchase products from their

speaker to give to the audience.

This idea has been

VERY successful for meeting planners, and audiences love it.

Audiences would almost ALWAYS prefer to get a book

(or tape or cd or shirt or….???) that is DIRECTLY related to

their keynote speaker than they would a silly clock,

another visor, or a water bottle.

Check with your potential speaker about discount

bulk purchases of resources.

Brad offers many products.

How To Book a Motivational Speaker

Day 1 Of Your Requested Course

4 Easy Tips for Choosing the Right Keynote Speaker

1. Book a speaker with a proven track record. Your

speaker should have a LONG list of happy clients. Ask

your prospective speaker to provide a list of RECENT

referrals.

One way to assure that you’ve got a real pro is to

book a CSP. Certified Speaking Professionals

are the meeting planners mark of excellence… and

booking a CSP can be like money in the bank.

Learn why you should care about CSPs here:

Keynote Speaker Award

2. If humor is important to you when selecting

a speaker (and it should be!), make sure your

speaker is ACTUALLY funny — and very clean. The

last thing you want is a keynote speaker who uses humor

that offends people in your group. Book a speaker

who understand and have tons of experience with

humor in the professional and corporate world.

How does Brad feel about crystal clean humor?

Learn more here:
Frequently Asked Questions about Keynote Speakers

3. Learn more about your speakers RECENT clients. Make

sure that your speaker has hundreds of references. Check

for a long list of past clients.

Check references (and make sure that the references are recent.)

And check with your potential speakers’ past clients to

make sure that your speaker is as professional OFF the

platform as he is ON the platform.

Learn more about Brad’s clients here: Brad’s Partial Client List

4. It’s VERY important to ask your potential keynote speaker a ton of

questions. Why should I book YOU? How do I know

you’ll deliver? Are you easy to work with? Can

you tailor your message to my group? You say you

are an expert… how do I know for sure? How do

you approach humor? How will my group feel after

they meet you?

Don’t stop asking questions until you know you have the

right person.

Not only will the answers to these questions help you pick the

right speaker, but having a dialoge with the speaker will help you

get a “feel” for your speaker. After all, if your speaker sounds

horrible on the phone, how will he sound in front of your group?

Brad loves working with sponsors. And Sponsors LOVE Working with Brad.

What are the details?

Having trouble meeting Brad Montgomery’s speaking fee? No sweat…. bring in a sponsor. They’ll help with the fee, and they’ll beg to do it again next year. Because Brad has a Black Belt at making sure your sponsors get a huge bang for your buck.

Best of all…. your audience will love you..

Audiences crave top caliber speaks. But they will NOT put up with a commercial. If your speaker doesn’t know how to properly help communicate the sponsor’s message without offending the audience, you’ve failed. But lucky you, Brad’s great at this balance and knows how to make everybody happy.

The secret is twofold.

First, Brad gets to know your sponsors. REALLY gets to know your sponsors. He’ll work with them offline to make sure he fully understands their product and/or service. He’ll know why it’s so fabulous. Or cutting edge. Or a great deal.

And best of all, he’ll know the exact talking points or individual messages your sponsors want to communicate to your audience. And he’ll make sure these points make it into his program.

How does he do this without making it a commercial? He uses humor. But custom creating humor about your sponsor and their talking points, he’ll get your audience laughing. They WILL know the info your sponsor wants them to know. And they’ll love it when Brad gets the audience laughing while he talks about them. And the audience will appreciate the sponsor for bringing in Brad (or a portion of Brad…. which sounds gross, but we think you know what we mean). Best of all, they’ll love that the commercial message will be buried in humor. Everybody wins.

Sponsors fear that their dollars will buy ONLY a tiny mention in the program, a placard in the hallway, and a mention from the introducer. Yeah, those things are nice — and we should do them all — but sponsors want more. And we can easily give it to them while maintaining the integrity of the meeting. They want more attention and time in front of your audience. Brad uses humor to make this happen. He increases their ROI tenfold. Trust me, they’ll love YOU for introducing them to Brad.

If your sponsor has a booth, we can step up the value to them even more.

Imagine GUARANTEEING them that 90% of all audience attendees go to their booth? Yeah, that’d be cool. And the sponsors LOVE it.

There are a couple of ways for this to happen. Brad can do a book signing in their booth after the event. People will come for the books and to meet Brad, and they’ll be available to the sponsors during that time.

Second, Brad often teaches how to play at work with toys, gags, and knick-knacks. (Is that a real word?) After the audience sees Brad teach them in a very funny way how to use these toys at work they want one. They WANT one. Usually Brad sells them after the program.

But we can easily get them for the sponsors….and offer them free of charge to your audience….just drop by the sponsor’s booth for one of the gags.

They will come. Trust us….they WILL come. Sure, the sponsors can give away the same old pens, candy and stress balls that the rest of the exhibit hall is giving away. Or they can give away these toys that Brad has turned into a MUST OWN item.

They’ll come. Trust us….they’ll come.

Bottom Line

But the bottom line is that we can work with you and your sponsor to find the missing dollars by offering a unique and valuable way for the sponsor to reach your audience. And we can do this in a way that your audience will thank you for.

Want the details? Give us a call and we’ll strategize the best way to make it happen for you.

Here are a few more ideas about how we can help your sponsor get a fabulous ROI:

Mention and thank the sponsor in the program

Acknowledge the sponsor on your Web site

Allow sponsor to introduce the speaker and give a “live commercial”

The speaker gives numerous mentions of the sponsor from the main stage

If appropriate, the speaker can wear the sponsor’s logo shirt during the talk

The speaker can sign books in the sponsor’s booth after the program

The speaker can do a special talk for them just before the conference starts

The speaker can send a personal letter of invitation to the event to the sponsor’s mailing list

Hang a banner ad behind the stage while speaker presents

Hand out individual fliers on each participant’s chair

Include the sponsor’s name and logo on the pages of the speaker’s handouts

What?! A Free Motivational Speaker? No Way!

If you want funny motivational speaker Brad Montgomery to speak free for one of your charity organizations it’s easy— just book Brad at full fee for your organization, then Brad will work with one of your favorite charitable or pet organizations for free. Maybe your kid goes to school that needs Brad’s special blend of motivation and comedy? Or maybe you’re affiliated with a survivors group? The local food bank? Or a home for special needs kids? A support group? Or your church, synagogue or mosque? No sweat.. Brad will work with that organization for free.

Here’s how it works. Brad will speak for your organization as usual. Then, during that same trip, Brad will speak to your charitable organization. If you’re looking for a top notch funny motivational speaker for your Rotary event, the staff at your local school, or any special group or organization that deserves something special but doesn’t have the budget for it, here’s your chance to make a splash.

It’s Brad — two for one! Book Brad now at regular price and get another Brad for free.

As you might guess, some restrictions apply. All we ask is that you help fit the bonus program within Brad’s travel, and schedule the bonus program in tightly with the regularly scheduled event. Second, the bonus program or speech must be for a charitable organization; this deal does not mean Brad will speak twice for your group at one fee. The free bonus motivational speech has to be for charity. (Non-profit organizations are great…. but they are not always charitable organizations.)

The bottom line is that Brad loves to work and share his message of humor and motivation with groups of all types, but he has a special place in his heart for charitable groups. This “Two For One” concept is is a way for Brad to help fulfill his goal of spreading his word to people who need it.

But best of all, it’s good for you. It’s YOUR chance at a cool brand of philanthropy. You’ll be responsible for getting Brad into your special organization, your pet charity your favorite charity for free!

As you might guess, each event is wildly different. So to figure out how we can make this work for you and your charitable organization, just call our office and will work to find a way to make this great deal to work for you.

Brad will speak for free?! You bet. Call us today and let’s get started making this special deal work for you!

100% Guaranteed, Iron-clad Money Back Guarantee

Here’s my policy about my motivational speaking: if you don’t like what I do for your organization, I’ll give you your money back. Simple, huh? I’ve been professionaly speaking for over 20 years. Yes, I have had wild programs. Yes, I’ve had some hilarious and weird stuff happen on the platform. But I’ve NEVER had a client ask for their money back. Never. But if they would have asked, I’d have given it back no problem. So if that is my informal agreement with myself, why not make it formal?

So here it is again: If you are not satisfied with what I offer, I’ll give you your money back.

To be honest, if I were planning a meeting or convention, knowing that I could re-coup a lousy speaker’s fee would be the least of my worries. (Let’s face it, if you’re planning even a small meeting you have some huge investments OTHER than the speaker to make.) If I were you, I’d be more worried about whether my speaker can deliver. I’m just saying that I’ll do both.

All I ask from you is that you set me up to succeed. If you follow my advice about timing, production (audio-visual stuff and the like) and if you promote me fairly and accurately to your group, I’ll do a great job. Guaranteed. If you don’t agree, you won’t pay.

A guaranteed professional speaker? Yup. You bet.

The ONLY times where I haven’t done well is where no speaker would have done well. For example, when the audience is not prepared, they are mislead about what to expect, they are exhausted, they cannot hear or see properly, they are drunk, etc.

I’m still proud of what I’ve accomplished in these less-than-perfect situations, but the overall audience reaction is was never as good as it should have been had the setting been different. But it wasn’t my fault…. it was just a lousy set-up that could have been prevented. In other words, don’t bill me as a Management Expert, (I’m not), don’t put me right after the golf awards and the service awards at 10 PM after a four-hour open bar, don’t put me outside on the beach, don’t fail to get adequate sound equipment, or layoff 20% of your organization moments before I go on. (Yes, they have all happened.)

In return, I’ll provide a relevant, entertaining and motivating program for your group. Guaranteed. I’ll be honest with you about what I can and cannot do. If I cannot meet your needs I promise to tell you before you book me. And if I feel that there are “red flags” that hint to me that the outcome might be diminished, I’ll let you know.

In exchange, I’ll…
• Expect that you set me up for success. (I’ll help you know how, and it is surprisingly simple.)
• Do a great job. Guaranteed. Looking for a guaranteed speaker for your meeting or convention?

A Personal Invitation from Your Keynote Speaker?

Imagine being able to send an email to your folks with this note: “Click this link to see a 40 second invitation from our keynote speaker.”

They’ll click. Excitement builds. Attendance goes up. Curiosity is satisfied. Everybody is happy.

What is it?

Brad has found that a unguarded, relaxed video is WAY more successful than a super-polished video. The welcome video is a cross between a voice message and a YouTube-style webcam video. In other words, it isn’t formal. Brad won’t rehearse it. There might be “ums” and “ers” in it. In this video Brad won’t come off like a spokes-model. (For several reasons, not even counting the “no hair” one.)

Social networkers have proven that off-the-cuff is better. The studies are exceptionally clear: perfect gets less results. The goal is to invite your audience in a very personal, very “real” way. We are not going for an Oscar. Our goal is to make a personal connection to the individuals in your organization. And these videos have been very successful in doing just that.

It’s Simple

All you have to do to make it happen is to let us know you want us to create a video, and answer these questions:

Who is Brad inviting? Be specific. eg: “All Wellpoint employees.” “Supporters of the Alzheimer’s Association.” “Members of the ABC Association.”

What is the casual way to reference where we’ll be holding the event? Be specific. Eg: “At the Lincoln Center. ” “In San Diego.” “At the South East Marriott.”

What elsewould you like Brad to tell them? (If Brad left off this info, you’d be crushed. Here’s your chance to let him know BEFORE he films the video.) Brad will take care of the rest. He’ll introduce himself, tell them a tiny bit about what to expect, and them a tiny taste of what he is all about.

—–
We’ve had clients request ‘do-overs’ on these videos. If you’d like Brad re-create the video for you with a different script, if you want to amend the info beyond the questions above, or if you don’t like Brad’s shirt choice, (yes, it’s happened) you have a choice.

You can have Brad film the program written by professional writers and filmed by a professional film crew. Fees for this option start at $1,600.

You can have Brad redo the video with the same look and feel as the original, but with whatever changes you left off. The fee for that option is $600.

You can live with it. Our guess is that you might be hung up on the fact that this is a simple, free and easy video. Brad is a simple, casual guy, and his audiences love him. (Brad is not a news anchor. Or an actor. He is a very likable normal guy who is great with audiences and will be great for your meeting.) And a simple, casual welcome video will serve you and your organization well.

—
The added fee for a customized welcome video for your organization: $600. (Most clients have us add this to Brad’s fee for his speaking services.

Questions? Give us a call at 303-691-0726 or you can contact us here.
–
